Application
IEC 61089 covers round wire concentric lay overhead electrical stranded conductors—specifically AAC, AAAC, ACSR, and ACAR,used for overhead power transmission and distribution lines.
Standard
Construction
Bare concentric-lay-stranded aluminium alloy wires constructed with a straight round central aluminum alloy wire surrounded by one or more layers of helically laid aluminium wires.
The most commonly used stranding consists of 7, 19, 37, 61,91 and 127 wires.
In all constructions, the successive layers shall have opposite directions of lay, the outermost layer being right-handed.

FAQ
AAC stands for All Aluminium Alloy Conductor. It is a bare overhead conductor made entirely of solid or stranded aluminium wires, designed for overhead power transmission and distribution lines.
IEC 61089 is the international standard for round wire bare overhead conductors. It defines dimensions, mechanical properties, electrical characteristics, test methods, marking and technical requirements for AAC, ACSR and other bare overhead line conductors.
It features light weight, good electrical conductivity, excellent corrosion resistance, easy installation and low overall line construction cost.
