N2XSY is a single-core medium voltage copper power cable complying with VDE 0276-620, HD 620 S2 & IEC 60502-2.
Code definition:
N = Copper conductor
2X = XLPE cross-linked polyethylene insulation
S = Copper wire metallic screen
Y = PVC outer sheath
Standard structure from inside out: Class 2 stranded copper conductor → conductive conductor screen → XLPE insulation → strippable insulation screen → copper wire screen with counter helix → PVC outer sheath.
Common voltage ratings: 3.6/6kV , 6/10kV, 12/20kV, 18/30kV.
he core difference lies in the outer sheath material, which determines installation limits:
N2XSY: Outer sheath = PVC. Limited UV resistance; outdoor exposure requires sunlight shielding. Suitable for direct burial, ducts, indoor tunnels, cable trays.
N2XS2Y: Outer sheath = HDPE (Polyethylene). Excellent UV resistance, better water & chemical resistance, can be used for open-air outdoor laying without extra UV protection.
Both share identical copper conductor, XLPE insulation and copper screen structure. N2XS2Y costs slightly higher than N2XSY.
Yes, N2XSY permits direct burial under standard specifications. Minimum burial depth ≥0.6m; minimum 0.8m under roads.
